In the latest podcast I visit Marinus and then take in some unseen parts of the Death Zone. For those of you that prefer the glass cone a special edition is in the pipeline.
Here is the recipe for the Pie of Rassilon:
500g plain flour
250g butter or margarine
3 or 4 apples
sugar (as much or as little as you like depending on your taste)
Rub the fat into the flour until it has the consistency of bread-crumbs.
Add water a little at a time until the mixture comes together. (The key to good pastry is to handle it as little as possible)
Split the pastry in half and roll out the first half and line the bottom of your pie dish.
Chop up the apples and stew in boiling water and as much sugar as you wish.
Pour stewed apple into the pie dish.
Roll out the other half of the pastry and cover the pie cutting off any excess as you go.
With the excess pastry cut out an elaborate Seal of Rassilon design and paste on top using a little water.
Cook on Gas Mark 6 or 200℃ for 30 -40 mins or until golden brown.
